# Badges

Badges can be awarded to celebrate the achievement of milestones throughout a course or simply as a motivation.

Badges can be awarded in the following instances:

1. **Manual issue by role:** Allows a badge to be awarded manually by users who have a particular role within the site or course.
2. **Course completion:** Allows a badge to be awarded once the course completion criteria is met. (Can only be set once course completion criteria is set and enabled)
3. **Awarded badges:** Allows a badge to be awarded to users based on the other badges they have earned.
4. **Activity completion:** Allows a badge to be awarded once a selected activity/s are completed. (Can only be set when activity completion criteria are set)

## New Badge Setup

To create a new badge for a course:

1. Click to add a new badge
2. Complete the information required
3. Enable Badge
